AB@UCSD's Coordinators have the unique opportunity to direct and coordinate a coalition of students committed to social justice, advocacy, allyship, and ethical volunteerism -- all the while promoting student growth, leadership, and development in their peers. It is with a heavy heart that we pass this title and torch on to yet another trio of Coordinators -- each with fresh eyes, new perspectives, innovative ideas, and even fuller hearts. We pass this torch, so that new leaders may light the way for the AB@UCSD Collaborative and its students who try to navigate and achieve a more just and proper global community . However, it is important to recognize that this torch is heavy, weighed down by great responsibility and countless challenges. Admittedly, every year's team of Coordinators faces their own unique battles both internally and externally. However, not a single Coordinator has ever regretted the time they spent committed to Alternative Breaks or questioned that their efforts were worthwhile.
As we begin the process of transferring the roles and responsibilities of leadership to a new set of Coordinators, we encourage all applicants to spend ample time in deep reflection, evaluating & re-evaluating their passion for and process in Alternative Breaks, their motivations for pursuing social justice, and the ambitions they wish to pursue as they push this Collaborative forward.
